Our skin is exposed to a variety of damaging elements every day and over the years this can take a toll on our skin. Microdermabrasion treatments can help to reduce and even eliminate many skin problems. Some of these problems that can be erased with this treatment are wrinkles, crows feet, fine lines, age spots, and scars.

Microdermabrasion is the use of a non-chemical spray of micro-crystals to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells. This is a noninvasive procedure that leaves the skin looking younger and healthier. This procedure is much less intense than dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is used to treat facial lines and extreme scars and sun damage much deeper than the microdermabrasion.

Almost any adult who is in good health can undergo microdermabrasion treatments. The cost depends on a few factors such as the amount of damage the skin has had, how many treatments are required, and where the treatment is performed. The cost of the physician doing the treatment will also be a deciding factor in the total cost. It is, however, cheaper than most other cosmetic procedures to the face.

The way this procedure is done is with a hand held device that sprays micro-crystals onto the facial skin. These fine crystals are used to polish the outer layer of skin to get rid of old skin cells. The treatments take around thirty minutes to one hour each session. Most people need need any where from five to ten treatments in a three week period.

This treatment will leave the skin a little pink but will fade shortly after after having the procedure. Makeup can even be applied shortly after the treatment to help cover up any signs of treatment. Many people like to have this treatment done on their lunch hour because there is very few visible signs of the treatment and it does not take too long.

The effects of this treatment are modest and are usually best when used on the early stages of aging. This treatment will not erase deep wrinkles. It may help to make them a little less noticeable but it will not erase them completely. You need to have realistic expectations when undergoing this treatment.

After having these treatments if you use topical lotions and creams the effects will last longer. If you have skin problems such as acne or sensitive skin then these treatments may not be for you. Aging skin can become very thin and having these treatments can make it even thinner. If your skin is already thin you may need to talk to the doctor before undergoing this treatment procedure.

Be sure that you have a clean bill of health before having these treatments. You may feel like you have a bit of a sunburn after the treatment and your skin should start to peel. Your skin will be a bit red and may be a little warm for a day or two. After this wears off you should have healthier and more vibrant skin.

According to the Oxford English dictionary Microdermabrasion is “a cosmetic treatment in which the face is sprayed with exfoliant crystals to remove dead epidermal cells.” It was added to the dictionary in 2004 as a new word due to the its recent popularity.

The practice, if not the name, has been around for thousands of years as the ancient Egyptian royalty would use pumice and alabaster to slough their skin for a smoother appearance. Dermabrasion has been practiced through the 20th century, although unlike its younger relative MICROdermabrasion, dermabrasion is much more invasive. Dermabrasion uses a local anaesthetic and a tool is used by a surgeon to remove a number of layers of skin. In the 1980’s the Microdermabrasion technique was developed by two Italian doctors and the process hasn’t looked back since.

Microdermabrasion treatments today follow the route of running a wand over the face that drives very fine crystals against the face. This action scrapes off the top layer of skin and the fragments are suctioned off.

The top layer of the skin is dead and naturally peels away to reveal the fresh new skin beneath. However if the renewal process is being impeded in some way this doesn’t always happen as efficiently as it should and the skin may not be as soft and smooth as it should. Microdermabrasion is a helping hand for nature to shed skin in a controlled manner.

Treatment is almost painless. Some people think it will almost feel like sandpaper due to the word abrasion appearing in the name. However Microdermabrasion has been likened to being licked on the face by a cat. While it might feel a little unusual to start with the patient becomes used to the action. Treatments usually only last for 15 to 30 minutes. There are home Microdermabrasion kits, but they do not use a machine and can not be as effective as those done in the doctor’s surgery, spa or beauty clinic.

After treatment the skin may appear a little red, like a light sunburn or windburn. This will disappear in 3 or 4 hours and you will be given instructions for a moisturising regime. There is no downtime due to the non-invasiveness and patients can immediately carry on with their daily routines, although staying out of the sun for a couple of days is usually recommended.

Generally a series of treatments is recommended. While skin and wrinkles might feel improved after one session the best results are obtained after about 5 sessions. These sessions are usually at least a couple days apart so as not to put your skin under undue pressure. A follow up session is also recommended every three or four months to maintain the skin conditions.

Microdermabrasion can be used to treat fine wrinkles, age spots, reduce acne scars and for a general exfoliation process. It will not, however, remove tattoos or deeper scarring as it is only working on the outer dead layer of skin.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that can be carried out with very few risks. The best outcome is a smoother, clearer, healthier looking skin.

After much demand from consumers who simply cannot afford to pay over a hundred dollars per microdermabrasion treatment, performing microdermabrasion at home is finally possible. Now, for a mere fraction of the price you would pay for this treatment in a doctor’s office, you can perform your own procedure and come away with glowing results.

The benefits of this process to the skin are simply amazing. It is common for people who go in for one treatment to immediately be hooked, booking future treatments before they even leave the office. Now, these consumers can take care of it in their own time right from their own home.

So, what exactly is so appealing about this skin procedure? What most people enjoy is the glowing, youthful appearance that the skin has with routine use of microdermabrasion. The signs of aging such as lines, wrinkles, and sun spots are drastically reduced. Bags and puffiness can be eliminated. Dead skin that gives a dull appearance is completely scrubbed away.

This very youthful, fresh appearance is what most people get hooked on, but this procedure is also extremely healthy for the skin. The dead skin cells are taken off, the pores are cleaned out, and the skin is well cared for. Then, new skin cell production is encouraged so the outer layers of the skin are more youthful and fresh.

This is why so the demand for this completely non-invasive procedure is in such high demand. Ultimately, it is that demand that has led to the development of microdermabrasion kits that can be used at home without the guidance of a professional.

These kits often use a variety of lotions and possibly a wand that will perform the same procedure that consumers would get from the wand of a professional in an office setting. This will save tons of time for people who are willing to do the procedures themselves at the correct intervals to maintain their more youthful appearance.

Since the microdermabrasion at home kits often sell for around $30 to $50, considerable financial savings can be gained here as well.

Of course, the ingredients in these kits are not all natural and could result in some harm to the skin if the directions provided with the kit are not followed closely. The biggest concern is with consumers who will use the kit more often than it is advised. Too much exposure to this kind of procedure can actually do more harm than good.

While it does take more than one procedure to get the full benefits from this procedure, you should never give into temptation to repeat the home kit more often than is advised in the instructions.

As long as you use the kit only as directed and do not repeat the process too often, you will enjoy the youthful glow that microdermabrasion home treatments provide. Not only will you look much younger, but you will fee lighter and more beautiful as well.

Microdermabrasion at home is just the newest wave for this trend that has captured much of the country. Everyone wants to look more beautiful and reduce the appearances of aging. Right now, this is one of the most effective and easiest ways to accomplish this.

Your skin is susceptible to environmental factors each and every day. We have the sun, the wind, and various pollutants ripping away our natural glow each time you go out. Thankfully, we now have procedures called microdermabrasion treatments to wipe away these affects on our skin.

Microdermabrasion is a process of using fine granules that are blasted onto your skin in order to clear away those little imperfections and flaws that we all have.

Skin types that need microdermabrasion treatments

Almost all skin types can benefit from microdermabrasion treatments. However, there are certain skin conditions that can particularly benefit from this procedure.

Mild acne: People who have either mild acne or mild acne scarring can be helped by these treatments. The procedure is very effective when it comes to unclogging pores, which is the leading cause of breakouts.

Wrinkles and lines: Microdermabrasion treatments are great at clearing away many of the signs of older age. You should be able to see fine lines disappear within a few treatments.

Uneven discolored skin: There have been a lot of advantages in using these therapies to cure blotchy and uneven skin tones. This will help to boost your self esteem and lessen the need for cosmetic cover ups.

Help for age spots: Nobody likes dealing with age spots that arise when our skin ages. Microderm treatments can be very helpful in treating age and liver spots.

Microdermabrasion benefits

The great thing about these treatments is the large number of benefits that can be expected. Remember, you will ultimately be the one who chooses the kinds of skin treatments that you’ll undergo. Your dermatologist can provide any necessary guidance, and what might be most appropriate for your unique skin type. Make sure that you carefully go over all of the information that is provided by your skin care professional before you have your first procedure.

One of the many benefits that microdermabrasion has is that it is not as invasive as many skin changing procedures. It will not require a hospital stay and can be performed in your skin care specialist’s office.

There is very little risk of anyone ever having an allergic reaction. Many other treatments, such as chemical based procedures have high risks of adverse reactions.

The fact is that there are little to no risks involved in receiving a microdermabrasion treatment. The only kind of reaction that anyone may have is a slightly red skin tone directly after treatment. This usually goes away after a few moments.

Most people really love the fact that microdermabrasion treatments can be done in a short amount of time. It can easily be done during your lunch break, and will allow you the ease of being able to return to work afterwards, with no ill effects or concern for your appearance.

One benefit of this treatment as opposed to any other type of skin procedure is the cost factor. Microdermabrasion involves minimal cost per treatment. You could get several microderm treatments for the price of some less than effective dermatological procedures. You can expect to pay around $400 to $500 for several treatments from a skilled professional. Microdermabrasion procedures are often referred to as the cheap alternative to a facelift. And not only do you not have to pay the high plastic surgery prices, but it’s certainly less evasive too.

This new and cutting edge procedure offers people a whole new look with minimal risks involved. You will be amazed at the people who think you look younger and more vibrant. Talk to your dermatologist today to see if it’s appropriate for your specefic conditions.
